The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly inspired candidates for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.
The purpose of the program is to cognize students with talent and aptitude for research; help them appreciate their academic potential; stimulate them to take up research careers in Science, and ascertain the development of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

The advertisement for the KVPY Fellowship be visible in all the national dailies normally on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July every year.
Selection of the students is built up from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences namely B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having eligibility for scientific research. Special groups / Committees are set up at IISc to filter the applications and held an aptitude exam at many centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude examination, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the last steps of the selection method. For taking a fellowship, both aptitude exam and interview marks are considered.
Generous fellowships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level to the selected KVPY Fellows.

Resonance: All the KVPY Fellows are hereby promoted to enroll a popular science magazine to keep abreast of the scientific developments. The magazine will cover various important lessons of science subjects uploaded by the Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore. Deserving KVPY Fellows can get subscription via a DD for Rs. 250/- drawn in favour of the “Circulation Manager, Indian Academy of Science”, payable at Bangalore and the same may be forwarded to the Circulation Manager, Circulation Department (Resonance), Indian Academy of Sciences, C.V. Raman Avenue, PB No. 80005, Bangalore – 560 080, website: www.ias.ac.in and by giving exact mailing address for receiving the science journal.
Renewal/Continuation of fellowship
Annual renewal of fellowships will depend on the KVPY Fellows maintaining a good academic performance of first class (60% marks) or equivalent grade point average (50% or equivalent grade point average for SC/ST/PWD) in science subjects in aggregate in each academic year in the first attempt. Students who failed to secure 60% marks or equivalent grade in a year (50% or equivalent grade for SC/ST/PWD) will forfeit the fellowship. However, in the subsequent year if they get 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (50% or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST/PWD) on aggregate over all the previous years, the fellowship will be renewed from that year. This is effective from 2012 awardees onward. The student is eligible to receive the KVPY Fellowship up to pre-PhD level or 5 years whichever is earlier.
The fellowship for the students selected under the stream SA/SX/SB will be started after the XII Standard/ (+2) / I year UG, only if they pursue an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that are, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Science or Geophysics.
Aptitude Test: After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for a written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country on Sunday, the 1st November 2015. The details of the venue of the aptitude test for the eligible students and their seat number will be published in the KVPY website during the second week of October 2015.
Students may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from the second week of October 2015.
Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
